Does Christmas have you stressed out?  Need a break from studying for exams?  Come out and hear the wonderful sounds of the MRA Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Shannon Watt, as they sing Christmas carols.  Find out what the true meaning of Christmas is from our Drama class and Dr. Miller.  Our Christmas Performance is Monday, December 15 at 6:00 in the cafeteria.  We will have hot cocoa and cider along with cookies to get everyone in the right mood!  Admission is free so come on out!

Elementary Music

Students will learn and be taught the five components of music; rhythm,melody, harmony, form, and expression. Ear-training, vocal technique,basic theory, and music history will be incorporated into theirstudies. Students in grades 2-5 will learn to play recorders. Inaddition, 1-3 grade students will perform a musical at Christmas; 4-5grade students will perform a musical during the spring.

High School Choral Music

Students will experience and participate in the performance of a varied repertoire. They will learn proper vocal techniques, music theory and sight singing. Students will relate music to history and culture, to the other arts, and to other core subjects. Basic stage movement and choreography will also be included. During the year, students will participate in festivals, concerts and perform a musical in the spring, along with the drama department.

Elementary
Mrs. Barbara Hutchins

Mrs. Hutchins graduated high school from Washington School in Greenville, MS. She earned her B.M.E. and M.M.E. from Mississippi College. After college, she taught in JPS and has taught at MRA for 26 years. She enjoys singing in choirs and accompanying choirs. She and her husband live in Madison where they raised two children who graduated from MRA.

Middle/High School
Mrs. Shannon Watt

Mrs. Watt graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. She has taught in Europe as well as Alabama, Georgia, Connecticut and Kansas. Mrs. Watt enjoys engaging the students with challenging repertoire and opportunities throughout the year. She teaches Middle School and High School Choral Music and Drama. She has two sons, Lewis and John, who attend MRA elementary.
