GUYS and DOLLS The MRA Choral and Drama department, under the direction of Mrs. Shannon Watt, will present their spring musical "Guys and Dolls Jr." Monday, April 28 at 6:00 pm Please come out and support our wonderfully talented students! Advanced tickets are on sale through student services for $5 or $7 at the door. Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, this Broadway classic introduces us to colorful characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers of Times Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the nightclub performer whose chronic cold is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiance, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game. Everything works out in the end, thanks to the twists and turns of the hilarious, fast-paced book which takes us from Times Square to Havana to the sewers of Manhattan, with a bright, brassy immortal score that's also easy to sing. Exhuberant, irreverant and lighthearted, Guys and Dolls is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy - and a perfect introduction to the American musical. KINDERGARTEN MUSIC PROGRAM Kindergarten and preschool attend music classes with a certified teacher and work on musical productions for each grades' Grandparents Day. Singing, marching, practicing rhythm, and playing percussion instruments are all skills learned in MRA's music. Of course, music is also a daily part of kindergarten and preschool curriculum in the classroom. From singing the national anthem to learning phonics through Sing, Spell, Read, and Write reading curriculum, our kindergarteners are a musical bunch. |
